Gym equipment mainTENance tips!

To prolong the life of your gym equipment, try these 10 handy tips:

👉 Daily Tasks:

1. Wipe down and sanitise equipment – After each day, wipe down high-touch areas (handles, screens, seats, etc.) with an appropriate cleaner to prevent grime buildup and stop the spread of germs.
2. Inspect cables and bolts for wear and tear – Check equipment like weight machines and cables for any visible signs of fraying or wear. Tighten any loose bolts or screws as necessary.
3. Check moving parts and belts for treadmills and bikes – Look for any irregularities, such as squeaks or loose belts, on treadmills, bikes, and ellipticals to identify any potential mechanical issues early on.
4. Regularly test machine safety features, such as emergency stop buttons on treadmills and ensure that safety clips are in good condition.

👉 Weekly Tasks:

5. Lubricate machine parts and belts – Lubricate moving parts on machines like treadmill belts and weight machines to help reduce friction and keep the equipment running smoothly.
6. Deep clean upholstery and padding – Use a suitable cleaner to remove sweat, oils, and grime from upholstery on benches and seats.
7. Clean and inspect air vents and fans – Dust and debris can accumulate in air vents and fans on equipment like treadmills and ellipticals, which can impact the equipment’s cooling and performance.

👉 Monthly Tasks

8. Inspect electrical components and replace worn parts – Check electrical wiring and connections for any signs of wear. Addressing minor issues like frayed cords early can prevent bigger (and more expensive) repairs down the road.
9. Calibrate and test weight machines – Regularly calibrate strength machines and ensure that weight stacks and pulleys are moving freely and accurately. Misalignment can lead to uneven wear or injury to your members.
10. Evaluate equipment condition and plan for preventative maintenance – Assess the overall condition of each piece of equipment and schedule any necessary preventative maintenance. This might include ordering replacement parts, planning repairs, or contacting us on 01257 264 738.
